How I Found The Merkaba
I first discovered the Merkaba in 1996 while reading a very strange, but interesting book titled, “Nothing In This Book Is True, But It’s Exactly The Way Things Are.” One day, I discovered a $5 off coupon in my wallet from a chain book store that was going to expire that day. So at lunch I went to the bookstore at my local mall to get a book with my coupon. I went to the metaphysical section and looked and looked, but really couldn’t find anything. Then I noticed the book, “Nothing In This Book Is True.” I picked it up, looked at the front and back cover, read the table of contents and thought, “What an odd book.” I put it back and looked around some more and then thought, “What was that book about?” So I looked through it more closely and put it back. After another minute, I thought, “What was the author talking about???” Then I realized that I was supposed to buy and read that book.
That evening I started reading the book and could not put it down. It was filled with all sorts of information about ETs, ancient civilizations, human history, Rebirthing, and something called the “Merkaba.” There were several line drawing and I was immediately drawn to the shape. There was something captivating about it. The drawings depicted a three dimensional Star of David. Like Richard Dryfis in the film “Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” I kept thinking, “There’s something special about this shape.” (I did NOT make merkabas out of my mashed potatoes!)
My First Merkaba
A few days later, it dawned on me that I should make a Merkaba (star tetrahedron) out of some cardboard stock I had in my studio. Being a commercial artist, draftsman, and designer, it wasn’t too difficult to draw out the shapes. With an X-Acto knife, board, some clear tape, and about 30 minutes, I had a three dimensional Merkaba shape. Then to get fancy, I used prismatic foil and covered the shape.
At the time, I was attending weekly Energy Meetings with my good friend Liz Severino. I took my new toy with me and passed it around the group. EVERYONE had the same response. They would hold it, look at it, turn it around, spin it, and then say, “There’s something interesting about this shape.” Yes, just like I had said!
It was almost a primordial experience, similar to looking at a fire on a cold night. A sensation that this was something that humans have looked at or had a sense about since the very beginning.
Deeper Into The Merkaba
A few years later, I read Drunvalo Melchizedek’s book, “The Ancient Secret of the Flower of Life: Volume 2.” If you are drawn to the Merkaba shape, Drunvalo’s books are a MUST READ. After reading his book, I was inspired to take a Merkaba Meditation class and was initiated into the “Order of the Melchizedek.” (I’m probably a buck private, but I was initiated.) A few years later when we started our first online metaphysical store on eBay, we started offering crystal Merkabas and soon discovered that they are our most popular item!
When I was designing the layout for our new website, I knew I had to include some information about the Merkaba. The topic is very deep and complex, and required MUCH more space than I have here. So what I have included is a collection of links that will take you to Drunvalo’s site, as well as several other sites on the Merkaba and sacred geometry. You will find some excellent information pages there that will help you to understand what the Merkaba is, what it’s significance is, and information about the Merkaba Meditation.
In A Nutshell
To be VERY simplistic, the Merkaba (star tetrahedron) is a graphic representation of your energy field, or your Soul. The Merkaba has two parts. One tetrahedron points up (the male aspect), and the other points down (the female aspect). The story goes that ages ago, all of humanity was in constant communication with the Creator. There was a free flow of communication with not only the Creator, but between all of “us.” In other words, all living entities - physical and non-physical.
After the fall from Grace, the pain of separation and the pain caused as a result of Souls choosing to allow themselves to be drawn towards the darkness, was so great, that the Creator issued a special dispensation to close down the connection as a way of reducing the shared pain. Prior to this closing down, the male and female tetrahedrons spun at tremendous speeds and in opposite directions. When the connection was closed, the opposing spinning tetrahedrons slowed to a near stop.
Although this action was successful in relieving humanity's pain, after a time humanity began to doubt the existence of the Creator and all of the other Souls in Creation, because their awareness of them had been closed off to their perceptions. Thus, we began to feel abandoned and started the long period of darkness that we are now coming come out of.
What We're Left With
For the vast majority of Humanity, their Merkaba energy field is dormant. However, when we meditate or pray, the energy fields begin to spin in their opposite directions. This is why when people practice certain types of meditation, they feel very energized and have a greater sense of awareness afterwards. Unfortunately, this energy boost does not last very long. Drunvalo Melchizedeck’s 17-breath meditation gets the opposing tetrahedrons up to near the speed of light. With that much inertia, one’s personal Merkaba energy field can sustain this high rate of speed for about 36 hours.
Using the Merkaka 17-Breath Meditaion, that wonderfully energetic sensation many of us sometimes get after meditation, can last for nearly a day and a half after doing the 17-breath meditation.
In the ‘90s Drunvalo was instructed to hand over the Merkaba Meditation technique to Gary Smith, who how is the master teacher of the 17-breath Merkaba Meditation technique. I learned the technique from one of Gary's certified instructors, Barbara Ruth from Allentown, Pennsylvania. The actual meditation is rather complicated and fortunately I was given an audio tape to use. Each breath of the 17 breaths has you doing particular eye movements, visualizations, and mental processes. So the tape really makes the meditation work.
In Closing
You have been drawn to the Merkaba for a reason. Whatever it was that brought you to here, was to take you to your next level of understanding. The Merkaba and the Merkaba Meditation are not an end to themselves, but rather a vehicle to take you to a more complete experience of Oneness with everything. Having beautiful Merkaba objects around you, serve as reminders of what we have forgotten. But in the most profound way, we are all Spiritual beings having a Human experience. Although the expression has been bantered around for many years, it’s truth has not diminished. The misperception is that we are Humans who sometimes have spiritual experiences. The Merkaba and the Merkaba meditation is another way of remembering this Truth.
