"Will" by James Allen
(from the book, "As A Man Thinketh")
You will be, what you "will" to be.
Let failure find its false content,
In that poor word "environment,"
But spirit scorns it and is free.
It conquers time, it masters space,
It cowls that boastful trickster "chance"
And bids the tyrant "circumstance"
Uncrowned, to take a servant's place.
The human will, that force unseen,
The offspring of a deathless soul,
Can work away at any goal,
Though walls of granite intervene.
Be not impatient and delay,
But wait, as one who understands.
When spirit rises and commands,
The gods are ready to obey.

"Mind" by James Allen
(from the book, "As A Man Thinketh")
Mind is the Master Power
that molds and makes,
And we are mind.
And ever more we take
the tool of thought,
And shaping what we will,
Bring forth a thousand joys,
or a thousand ills.
We think in secret,
and it comes to pass,
Environment,
is but our looking glass.

"Visions & Ideals" by James Allen
(from the book, "As A Man Thinketh")
Dream lofty dreams and as you
dream,
so shall you become.
Your vision is the promise
of what you shall one day be.
Your ideal,
is the prophecy
you will at last unveil.
The greatest achievement
was at first and for a time a dream.
The oak sleeps in the acorn,
the bird waits in the egg,
and in the highest vision of the soul,
a waking angel stirs.
For dreams,
are the seedlings of reality.
Your circumstances may be unpleasant,
but they shall not long remain so,
if you but perceive of an ideal
and strive to achieve it.
For you can not travel within
and stand still without.

"Serenity" by James Allen
(from the book, "As A Man Thinketh")
Calmness of mind, is one of the beautiful jewels of wisdom. It is the result of long and patient effort in self-control. Its presence is an indication of a ripened experience, and of a more than ordinary knowledge of the laws and operations of thought.
The strong and calm person is always loved and revered. They are like shade giving trees in a thirsty land, a sheltering rock in a storm. Who does not love a tranquil heart, a sweet tempered, balanced life? It does not matter whether it rains or shines, or what changes come to those possessing these blessings, for they are always sweet, serene, and calm. That exquisite poise of character, which we call serenity, is the last lesson of culture, it is the flowering and fruitage of the soul. It is as precious as wisdom and more to be desired than gold - yes even fine gold. How insignificant mere money making looks in comparison to a serene life - a life that dwells in the ocean of Truth, beneath the waves, beyond the tempests, in the Eternal Calm.
How many people do we know who sour their lives, who ruin all that is sweet and beautiful by explosive tempers, who destroy their poise of character, and make bad blood? It is a question whether the great majority of people do not ruin their lives and mar their happiness by a lack of self-control. How few people we meet in life who are well balanced, who have that exquisite poise which is characteristic of the finished character!
Yes, humanity surges with uncontrolled passion, is tumultuous with ungoverned grief, is blown about by anxiety and doubt. Only the wise ones, whose thoughts are controlled and purified, make the winds and storms of the soul obey them.
In the ship of your soul, reclines the commanding Master. He does but sleep; wake Him! Self-control is strength, Right Thought is mastery, Calmness is power. Say unto your heart, "Peace, be still.."

As a student of the Celestine Prophecy Insights, I'm always on the lookout for coincidences. But years ago, things sometimes had to jump at me over and over to get my attention. "As A Man Thinketh" was one of those books. When I finally read the book, I was blown away by its clarity and beauty. Written in 1902 as one in a series of 14 metaphysical and inspirational books, "As A Man Thinketh" is, in my opinion, the most underrated inspirational book of our time. Maybe it's because "As A Man Thinketh" is physically a small book, that most don't pay attention to it.
Not only is James Allen's writing extraordinarily clear, but his prose is just beautiful.
Consider this passage from the chapter titled "Visions and Ideals." Allen writes:

"Dream lofty dreams and as you dream, so shall you become.

Your ideal, is the prophecy you will at last unveil.

I have read many books and have been lifted up and inspired by many authors.
But every year or so, I reread "As A Man Thinketh" and my Soul is touched once again.
