| The Roots of Self-Inspiration
I’ve always loved the word "inspiration." Even before I understood the roots of the word, it always made me feel good. I suppose it’s because from an early age, there were always people in my life that inspired me - that helped me to feel that I could be and do more than I thought that I could. People who saw my potential, believed in me, and inspired me to soldier on in the face of uncertainty and challenge. I knew what it felt like to be inspired, although I didn’t understand what the word really meant. |
With three sets of sliding doors we're able to control the airflow in the sunroom. In the Spring I plant red chilli peppers and jalapeno peppers in the three planters. We have several other planters on the deck that we fill with inexpensive annuals. The flowering plants add a splash of color and provide the local fairies with nice places to hand out! |

On the other side of this grove of trees is a blueberry patch. There's a water run off and an informal walking path that runs behind the townhouses. The path is also part of a deer run. We have seen as many as six deer just outside the deck. Most people aren't aware that this is common ground, so usually only those of us who live here ever walk back here. It's a nice place to walk your dog. Our dog Buddy LOVED going for a nice long "sniff" along here. |
Let me explain how the First Insight sets the stage for inspiration. This is important because once you are aware of this, you will greatly enhance your mind to be on the lookout for inspirations. Simply stated, the First Insight is the increased awareness of "coincidences" as the Universe’s way of getting your attention. Coincidences are not simply the amusing random events that we tend to think they are. "Oh wow... what an interesting coincidence." No, coincidences are the Universe’s way of saying to you, "HEY! YO! OVER HERE! YOU NEED TO PAY ATTENTION TO THIS! THIS IS IMPORTANT! DON’T BLOW THIS OFF, IT’S SOMETHING YOU NEED TO KNOW!" When I first read that Insight, I was struck by the profound simplicity of the idea. I thought, "How interesting... the Creator can be oh so subtle." So with that in mind, I decided to begin to pay attention to coincidences that I previously would have simply let slide by, as another one of Life’s little amusements. Now here’s the key part. I began to notice that when I paid attention to the coincidences in my life and went with them, I always felt inspired! I felt that spark of excitement, the thrill of a new discovery, and that another piece in the puzzle of my understanding was falling into place. |
| Over the last ten years, this insight has served me very well. It didn’t take long before being alert to coincidences became a positive habit. Here is an interesting piece of wisdom that fits in with what we’re talking about here. The Hawaiian Hunas (medicine men & women) have a beautiful expression, here it is, "Where attention goes... energy flows... and results show." This is a very powerful understanding. What it tells us is that the mental function of "attention" acts as a focusing device. When you focus your attention, your energy flows in that direction. When energy flows in a certain direction, things happen. It is simple, yet profound. So what do you think happens when you begin to focus on coincidences? You are literally pouring energy in that particular direction. Additional energy enhances situations or projects, which benefit from the energy boost. If followed through to fruition, situations improve; projects get completed, and usually turn out better than initially anticipated. The entire process can move events forward quickly and with great ease. I began to experience that I was being inspired more than I ever had before. And the best part was that I didn’t have to wait for someone else or external situations to inspire me. I was creating my own inspiration by paying attention to coincidences and acting on them! |
The trees are mostly pin oaks and pines. During the Spring and Sunner the tree conopy is very thick providing ample shade. Winter months create a line drawing-like look with a splash of color from the pine trees and evergreens. As the sun gets close to the horizon it creates a shadow line that slowly moves up the trees as you look east. Once the sun sets, we get to watch the sky go through a blue to black color change through the silhouette of the bare trees. Since our inspiration room looks directly south, one a sunny, clear day the view from the west and the east can be spectacular. I have spent many a sunday day off in the room watching the sun move across the sky from east to west. Sunrises are wonderful as well. VERY inspiring. |
